Unexpected Downtime -- April 2023

Post by BosaikNet »

We are currently experiencing unexpected and prolonged downtime due to a hardware failure on GameServer-4, which began on 27 March 2023. The failed component was isolated and mitigations were performed, but at the moment the server remains down with no ETA for return to service. No data loss occurred, and a server backup was performed in the mitigation state. The status for individual services are as follows:
  • Minecraft: BosaikCraft and Dynmap are both down.
  • Unreal Tournament 2004: ComboWhore Los Angeles and BosaikFrag are both wholly down. The UT2003/UT2004 redirect server is down. ComboWhore Quebec is still up; however, as the redirect server is down, we are temporarily using the PWC Gaming public redirect server.
  • Unreal Tournament 2003: BosaikFrag UT2003 is down. Its redirect server is also down, so mitigations are not available.
  • Garry's Mod: The main server is down. The fallback server, hosted separately with identical content, is up on demand.
  • Team Fortress 2: BosaikHats is down.
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive: We're not sure if this was even up to begin with, but it'd be down if it were.
  • IRC: Portions of the network were splintered, but split portions were re-bridged to East (as they should have been originally). All Discord-IRC bridges are down.
  • ZNC: The members ZNC is down, but this will be moved to a separate host at some point in the future due to stability issues with the Cygwin builds of ZNC. The bosaik.net ZNC is unaffected.
  • Forums: The bosaik.net webserver is unaffected.
Most secondary services and all unmitigated hosted Member Features provided by BosaikNet are also down.

The downtime has also provided an opportunity to perform necessary hardware maintenance on the server, which was finished on 8 April 2023. Aside from the hardware failure, server health is good, and the system is able to run with manual intervention.
